OLIVER RADCLYFFE

Oliver Radclyffe’s spirited polemic disrupts – intentionally, pointedly, playfully – the current structure of popular debates on gender. Adult Human Male rejects the academic argot of theoretical constructs and, instead, recenters the trans body as fundamental to a humanist inquiry into identity. Radclyffe posits that the cis perspective—from which nearly all gender discussions begin—is anything but neutral and thus demands both interrogation and expansion so that trans identity is not viewed through a hostile lens. Oliver Radclyffe is a British-born writer whose work examines the topics of gender identity, sexual orientation, familial allegiance and social class from a trans perspective. His essays have appeared in The New York Times and Electric Literature, and he has two books due for publication: Adult Human Male, a monograph, forthcoming from Unbound Edition Press in September 2023, and Frighten The Horses, a memoir, forthcoming from Roxane Gay Books in 2024. He currently lives in Connecticut where he is raising his four children.
