BOB FRISHMAN

From 1973 to 1983, Bob served on Congressional staffs in the U.S. House of Representatives after graduating from George Washington University.  For the final three years, and during Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s last years in public office, he was her speechwriter and press secretary.  He then wrote a book challenging the conservative Pro-Family Movement for the public-interest group, People For The American Way. Following his next ten years running a family manufacturing business, he began his professional career in horology in 1993.  He has repaired and restored more than 8,000 antique clocks, sold more than 1,800 of them, published more than 100 related articles, and lectured more than 100 times on the history, culture, and science of timekeeping. He was a public-library trustee for ten years and presently is a Boston Athenaeum Proprietor, a Shareholder of the Library Company of Philadelphia, and a Liveryman of London's Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. His forthcoming biography of Colonial Philadelphia clockmaker Edward Duffield will be published by the American Philosophical Society. Age 71, he lives in Andover, Massachusetts, with his wife, writer Jeanne Schinto.
